Basada en una historia real. Un profesor de universidad adopta a un perro vagabundo en una estación del tren. Tras recabar información sobre el animal, el profesor descubre que el perro iba a los andenes a diario durante semanas para esperar el regreso de su amo, pero éste había muerto en un accidente en la ciudad. El perro Hachiko, al lado de su nuevo amo a quien también le cambiará la vida cuando descubre los lazos que se pueden crear entre un animal y una persona.
